The Broncos need more recognition for having a duo featuring two of the best players in the defensive backfield. To me, Patrick Surtain, or PS2, and Justin Simmons are the best safety-corner duo in the AFC.
Recently they got a little bit of the respect they deserve. CBS Sports put together a list of each team's best duo, and you know those two made the cut. Sure, there are other duos you could throw up there, but none are as lethal as the two guys holding it down in the defensive backfield.
Denver Broncos: Patrick Surtain Jr. (CB) and Justin Simmons (S)
The Broncos have one of the game's best cornerbacks in Surtain, who has allowed a 59.7 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks after his first two seasons. Targeting Surtain is difficult, as quarterbacks have completed just 54.5% of their pass attempts with six interceptions. Surtain has 24 passes defensed in his career and earned First-Team All-Pro honors in just his second season. Simmons has been a mainstay in the Broncos' secondary. A Second Team All-Pro last season (and three times in the last four years), Simmons tied for the NFL lead with six interceptions and had three forced fumbles in just 12 games. Opposing quarterbacks had just a 71.3 passer rating targeting Simmons last season, a good mark for a safety. Denver's secondary is in good hands with Surtain and Simmons. – Jeff Kerr, CBS Sports
Honestly, there was no other cornerback safety duo on this list besides Jaycee Horn and Jeremy Chinn on the Carolina Panthers, but the Broncos' duo is still better. The only other cornerback on the list in any duo was Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams of the New York Jets.
So, it's safe to say they have the best safety-cornerback duo in the league. Yes…These two make plays repeatedly, and their chemistry is insane. They are one of the biggest reasons the Broncos' defense was as good as it was last year.
The best part is Surtain is only entering his third year, and Simmons still hasn't hit his best season yet. They can only get better from here.
Broncos: Justin Simmons gives Patrick Surtain a one-of-a-kind compliment
The Denver Broncos have one of the best payers in the league at his position, and a guy who can shut down one half of the field.
