Tennessee Vols wide receiver Jalin Hyatt could be the first UT wide receiver selected in the first round since Cordarrelle Patterson in the 2013 NFL Draft.
Hyatt is one of the top wide receivers in the 2023 NFL Draft thanks to his breakout junior season that saw him win the Biletnikoff Award and set the Tennessee record for most receiving touchdowns in a season (Hyatt had 15 touchdown receptions in 2022).
The majority of mock drafts have Hyatt going in the latter half of the first round.
While it's encouraging for Hyatt to see himself going in the first round in recent mock drafts, that doesn't mean he's a guaranteed first-round pick.
Mock drafts aren't always accurate. In fact, it seems like every year we see players fall in the draft that were projected to go much higher.
A year ago, Liberty quarterback Malik Willis was projected in numerous mock drafts as a top-10 pick. Almost every mock draft had him as at least a first-round pick.
Willis ended up falling to the third round where he was selected by the Tennessee Titans with the No. 86 overall pick.
I don't think Hyatt will be falling to the third round, but a recent report from Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy suggests that Hyatt won't be a first-round pick.
Nagy noted on Monday morning that numerous NFL teams only view one wide receiver in this year's draft as a first-round talent — Ohio State's Jaxon Smith-Njigba
There's a lot of misinformation flying around this time of year. NFL teams like to throw a lot of stuff out there in an attempt to conceal their intentions. That could be the case here.
Nagy, however, has a great relationship with a lot of NFL teams. His status as the Senior Bowl director makes him a valuable resource for NFL teams and I'm not sure they'd pass along false information to him.
We'll see how the draft plays out later this month, but it sounds possible that Hyatt could slide to the second round.
Though I wouldn't be surprised if the Chiefs select him with the last pick in the first round. Not only would Hyatt be a great fit in Kasnas City, but selecting the former Vol with the final pick in the first round would allow the Chiefs to take advantage of the fifth-year option with Hyatt down the road.
