Former Tennessee Volunteers quarterback Nico Iamaleava was very honest on Saturday night after a tough game against San Diego State.
UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava didn’t mince words on Saturday night after a 28-10 win over San Diego State.
The Bruins were up just 7-3 early in the fourth quarter before finally putting the game away.
Iamaleava was clear after the game while speaking with reporters that he needs to play better moving forward for UCLA to have a chance to win “big games.”
“If we want to be able to win these big games, I’ve got to play way better,” said Iamaleava. “But it feels great to have a support cast that even if I don’t play my best, we can still pull out a win.”
Iamaleava completed 14-of-22 passes for 151 yards and an interception in the win. He also rushed for 57 yards on 13 attempts.
It’s important to remember that Iamaleava is on his fourth offensive coordinator in three seasons (counting the interim offensive coordinator last season), so it’s going to take some time to settle in.
“I think just comfortability with Coach (Dean) Kennedy,” said Iamaleava when asked what needs to happen to improve moving forward. “Him learning me and me learning him still. We’re working.”
Iamaleava and the Bruins will be back in action next Saturday night when they host Purdue as UCLA will look to move to 3-0 on the season.
