Former Tennessee Titans outside linebacker Bud Dupree is reportedly signing a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons for the 2023 season.

Dupree, who once upon a time signed a five-year, $82.5 million contract with the Titans, was released by Tennessee for cap savings back in March.

In two years with the Titans, Dupree recorded seven sacks, 17 quarterback hits, and two forced fumbles in 22 games played.

In December of 2020, Dupree suffered a torn ACL as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Injury concerns, however, did not stop Jon Robinson and the Titans from spending big on Dupree's services in the 2021 offseason.

Dupree was always a productive and valuable member of the Titans' defense. When he was fully healthy and lined up with Jeffery Simmons, Denico Autry, and Harold Landry III, the pass rush just looked different. Unfortunately for both Dupree and the Titans, chronic health issues stemming from his ACL surgery prevented Dupree from ever living up to the dollar amount on his contract.

Dupree missed 12 games over two seasons with the Titans, and failed to play 60 percent of defensive snaps in both years. Dupree attributed his issues to "bad habits" he had developed from over-compensating for his knee.

"Just coming back from the ACL injury, that puts stress on your body. Lots of compensation going on within that time and you develop habits that you normally don't do," Dupree said. "That's what brought up my recent injuries that I've been having."

According to ESPN, Dupree chose Atlanta's one-year deal over returning to Pittsburgh on a two-year contract. I'd imagine Dupree is hoping that good health in 2023 will lead to a return to form and a bigger deal next offseason.

For the Falcons, Dupree is absolutely worth taking a chance on. There's very little risk in a one-year deal for a player that you know can greatly impact a defense when o the field.

Hopefully Dupree finds himself on the field and has a productive season for Arthur Smith and the Falcons.
