There is a good chance that the best move of the offseason is still to come for the Detroit Lions, and that is saying something.
The Lions have somehow found ways to improve on both sides of the ball and look like a legitimate contender after nearly three decades of terrible play due to some excellent work from the front office.
Assuming the team can keep finding ways to bring pieces in that have ways to contribute, contending for a deep playoff push may not be as hard as some think.
The 2023 NFL Draft is going to be a huge determinant of how much better the Lions are going to be in the upcoming season.
Brad Holmes has hit the ball out of the park with all of the free agent signings this year, and it looks like the team will have an awesome chance to do the same in the draft.
If the Lions could find a way to get one of the best players in the class, those playoff hopes become all the more real.
Enter Jalen Carter.
Carter may be a polarizing figure based on some of his off-field exploits, but everyone in the league can at least agree that Carter is in quality contention for being the best player in this class.
Expecting Carter to fall to six in a normal year may be a bit much, but the defensive-needy Lions could get lucky if an early run starts on the quarterback position as expected.
In a move that isn't much of a surprise, the Lions are obviously very interested in Carter as a prospect and are meeting with him tomorrow.
Could this be the start of something special in Detroit? It absolutely looks like it.
If Carter is available at six, the Lions may have no choice if the meeting tomorrow goes well.
