The New Orleans Saints locked up tight end Juwan Johnson to a new deal this off-season. He had the best season of his career last season, and he deserves to be the starter.

That being said, depth is never a bad idea. Especially at an offensive skill position, you want capable players throughout the depth chart. The Saints could add a premium talent at TE in this year's draft.

Notre Dame's Michael Mayer is the best overall TE in the class. His balance of blocking and receiving ability is impressive. Not to mention, his after-catch ability is elite for a tight end prospect.

In Maurice Jones-Drew's latest mock draft, he had the Saints taking Mayer in the first round. Mayer is normally projected to go earlier than New Orleans' pick, but this scenario differed. It is an intriguing concept for the Saints.

Mayer would be a great add for New Orleans as well as phenomenal value for their selection. In a weaker overall draft class, grabbing the top talent at a position at the end of the first round is a massive win. Mayer should be a top option for the Saints going into this draft.
