The Minnesota Vikings received a piece of good news regarding one of its star players on Monday.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports that Cook recently went in for a post-surgery checkup after undergoing labrum surgery this offseason. Cook was deemed to be making excellent progress according to the report.
Cook has been dealing with shoulder problems for at least the past three seasons in Minnesota. Rushing for over 1,100 yards in each of the last three seasons looks more impressive, but it also helps explain some of Cook’s struggles in that timeframe.
Even with the procedure, Cook’s future in Minnesota could still be in limbo. His name has been at the center of trade rumors for much of the offseason. The 27-year-old running back carries a $14.1 million cap hit into 2023, which is a lot to stomach for the cap-strapped Vikings.
This positive update on Cook’s health can only be good for the Vikings. A fully healthy Cook could help carry the Vikings to back-to-back NFC North titles. That being said, this news stands to drive up the demand for NFL teams currently in the need of a lead back with four Pro Bowl appearances to his name.
