Playoff chances for the Tennessee Titans ahead of 2023 NFL season
Opening betting odds for the Tennessee Titans to make the playoffs in 2023.
After three consecutive playoff appearances from 2019-2021 than included a trip to the AFC Championship Game, the Tennessee were an underwhelming 7-10 and missed the playoffs in 2022.
It marked the first time under head coach Mike Vrabel (48-34) that Tennessee has had a losing record.
The Titans roster is going to look very different in 2023, though. Tennessee cut bait with multiple veterans that were due big money this season while filling holes in a series of free agent acquisitions. But will it be enough to land them back in the playoffs?
Playing in a weak AFC South with two teams entering a full rebuild, the Titans winning the division in 2023 is not an impossible outcome. After all, they stayed in contention through the final game of last season despite a series of long-term injuries to impact players.
A little bit of health and a new offensive coordinator could be all the Titans need to turn things around and wind up hosting another playoff game at Nissan Stadium…Or maybe not.
According to BetOnline's opening betting odds for every NFL team to make the playoffs, Tennessee is an early long shot.
The Titans are +240 (12/5) to make the playoffs and -300 (1/3) to miss the playoffs next year. Those odds suggest a 75% chance that Tennessee comes up short of Super Wild Card weekend.
Indianapolis is listed as +325 (13/4) to make the playoffs, Houston is at +600 (6/1), and the AFC South favorite Jaguars opened at -190 (10/19). BetOnline gives Jacksonville a 65.5% chance to make the playoffs as the clear favorite in the division.
As long as Ryan Tannehill, Derrick Henry, Jeffery Simmons, and Kevin Byard are on the roster, the Titans can never be ruled out. Even in a down year with nearly everything going wrong, just one game separated Tennessee from another playoff birth. Should the Titans choose to give it another go, don't be surprised if they are once again in contention come December.
