The Detroit Lions are set up for success in the 2023 NFL Draft. With nine picks in total and four in the first two rounds, Lions general manager Brad Holmes has to feel good about the team’s outlook.

But just because the Lions have plenty of ammunition in the draft doesn’t mean the team can relax and become complacent. Holmes knows how pivotal the 2023 draft class will be for Detroit’s future and isn’t taking any shortcuts in the team’s preparation.

“We're in a position where we can really do anything we want,” Holmes said. “I just don’t feel like we're pressing. When I say that I'm not saying that we have a perfect roster. I'm in the mindset of, look, if you think that you're set and you think that you're done and you can go anywhere, I mean, if you take your foot off the gas, you can have problems lurking down the road. So we're just being thorough, we'll be prepared but I do like the fact that we can pretty much go in any direction that we want and feel good about it. Just get the right football player for us.”

The Lions have two opportunities in the first round to improve their roster and find players who are capable of making an instant impact in 2023. Detroit’s 2022 draft class exceeded expectations and look like a group that can lead the Lions back to the postseason.

If Holmes can replicate last year’s success, the Lions will be a thorn in the NFC’s side for years to come.
