Former second-round pick CB Joejuan Williams is getting a fresh start after signing with the Minnesota Vikings on Monday.

Williams, who spent his first four seasons with the New England Patriots, is just the latest addition to Minnesota’s secondary. Once a highly touted prospect out of Vanderbilt, injuries and inconsistency has plagued Williams in the early stages of his NFL career.

With that being said, beginning a new chapter in Minnesota under the tutelage of defensive coordinator Brian Flores could help Williams reinvent himself.

“I’m very excited. I’m very thankful and blessed for the opportunity,” Williams said after signing with the Vikings. “The overall history here has been amazing, just from the greats who came through this organization. Even the ties with coach Flores from the Patriots organization, definitely some similarities there. We had great conversations, and I’m really looking forward to playing for him.”

Listed at 6’3” 215lbs, Williams has the size Flores is looking for at the cornerback position. After missing the entire 2022 season due to a shoulder injury, Williams will be ready to hit the ground running for Minnesota’s offseason activities.

Williams joins a group of cornerbacks featuring Byron Murphy Jr., Andrew Booth Jr. and Akayleb Evans. Depth in the secondary is critical in today’s NFL. Look for Williams to battle it out with Booth and Evans during training camp to determine their roles in 2023.
