The New York Giants just selected whom many believe to be the best center in the 2023 draft class in John Michael Schmitz from Minnesota. By all accounts, the front office believed he was the best and he certainly believed he was.
But not everyone views players the same, as Joe Tippmann of Wisconisn was selected before JMS with the 43rd overall pick by the New York Jets.
Well, JMS is sure to not forget that, and he has added a chip on his shoulder as he approaches his rookie season.
In my opinion, that's the mentality that you want out of all your players, but especially your interior offensive lineman. That position requires a certain amount of "grit" if you will.
The position is as brutal as it gets in football, as lineman and centers specifically have top play every rep with an edge, meaning the more motivation the better.
Not only is New York getting the best center in the draft, but they are also getting a confident player, one that feels he was devalued. I'm sure that just adds to his list of strengths though, as he rounds out his scouting report as the newest member of the New York Giants.
