The 2023 NFL Draft was an important one for the New Orleans Saints. In the fourth round, they made a pick that surprised some folks. They drafted Fresno State quarterback Jake Haener.

Haener attended the same college as new starting QB Derek Carr, and Carr has already been mentoring the young signal-caller. Haener has received some comparisons to former Saints legend Drew Brees. He is smaller in stature and played with impressive grit and accuracy in college. Haener is a very cerebral quarterback, and New Orleans is excited about him.

Brees isn't the only comp for Haener so far, though. Former Pro Bowl NFL running back Maurice Jones-Drew called Haener "Day Three Joey B". That nickname, of course, is a nod to Cincinnati Bengals superstar QB Joe Burrow

That's a massive comparison for the rookie QB. Burrow is one of the best QBs in the NFL and has already seen the Super Bowl. Not to mention, Burrow led LSU to a national championship while he was in college. He had one of the greatest seasons in NCAA history.

We will see if Haener can develop into the starter for the Saints after Carr. MJD certainly believes in the young quarterback.
