At the end of the day, the average fan knows very little about what actually goes down in an NFL locker room.
Reporters serve as an easy way to get information, but there are plenty of examples where it has been proven over and over again that reporters are complicit (whether knowingly or unknowingly) in furthering narratives that are untrue.
It depends on the source, but there are plenty of times where organizations cover themselves at the expense of their players. Tampa Bay Buccaneers fans need to keep this in mind with quarterback Baker Mayfield.
Mayfield is a polarizing figure throughout the NFL and the Buccaneer fanbase. Part of this is due to his exit from Cleveland and negative comments that came out from the front office.,
However, former Mayfield teammate Austin Hooper spoke out against this narrative as a guy that knows the true story better than most:
The testimony of one player may not shift the entire narrative overnight, but it would also be fair to say that guys like Hooper wouldn't do this for Mayfield if he was as abrasive as others said.
Perhaps the Buccaneers are getting more of a leader and well-liked player than some within the fanbase originally believed.
