The Detroit Lions have finally made their first pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Most fans probably didn't plan on seeing the team trade back to select a running back at 12th, but Brad Holmes has the track record to garner some trust at this point. Alabama RB Jahmyr Gibbs is heading to Detroit.

It is clear that the Lions wanted to find a way to keep one of the best offenses in the league in 2022 on the field in the upcoming season. Gibbs was the second-best running backs in the draft by most accounts and it is clear Detroit was confident with the pick considering Bijan Robinson was available at six.

How this pick will work out remains to be seen, but the commitment to the offense seems to be on brand for a team that was defined by that side of the ball in 2022.
