There's a peculiar narrative going around regarding former Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.
Some folks believe that he was not interested in joining the New Orleans Saints, and that was what was the final straw in the Raiders cutting ties with him. They believe that he presented a trade to New Orleans due to preference.
In reality, that concept doesn't hold much water.
The Saints and Raiders had agreed to trade compensation simply to allow Carr and the Saints to have communication. That was all.
New Orleans emerged as the most aggressive suitor before his guaranteed money deadline that occurred today. Carr didn't say "No, thank you. I'm taking your name out of the hat, Saints."
Instead, his backing of his no-trade clause was really just because he saw where things were trending for him and the Raiders.
Carr, the Raiders, and every interested team knew that no trade was going to happen involving the veteran QB. It just would not have made sense in a time crunch for Carr or the team trading for his services.
The process would have been rushed, and it would have costed draft capital. Not to mention, his contract was a massive one for the rest ofd his tenure in Vegas.
Now, he officially has a fresh start.
That means that the Saints are nowhere near out of the running for Carr. Actually, the Saints seem like one of the most intrigued teams when it comes to what Carr can bring.
New Orleans seems to be favoring the veteran route at QB for the near future, and the former Raider may just be the best option on the market.
They will have competition, but they won't back down.
Don't count out the Saints when it comes to the sweepstakes for a new Carr.
