The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs kicked off Super Bowl week on Monday by addressing fans/media in Phoneix.

During the event, reporters spoke with Eagles second-year cornerback Zech McPhearson.

McPhearson, like Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes, played college football at Texas Tech.

The Philadelphia defender told The KC Star's Herbie Teope that Mahomes sent him a signed jersey last season, before noting that he thinks the Chiefs quarterback will one day have a statue at Texas Tech.

McPhearson also compared Mahomes to Michael Jordan.

That sounds like a player who might be a little starstruck next Sunday when the Super Bowl kicks off.

The comment about the statue from McPhearson, by the way, is interesting.

I tend to agree that Mahomes will eventually have a statue in Lubbock, TX.

But it won't be because Texas Tech experienced a lot of success when Mahomes was in town.

Mahomes played three seasons for the Red Raiders and only finished with a winning record once (7-6 in 2015). Now, that obviously had more to do with coaching than Mahomes' abilities, but it still wasn't exactly a fruitful run for Texas Tech.

So if Mahomes does end up with a statue at Texas Tech, it'll mostly be because of his accomplishments in Kansas City.

Either way, it's clear that McPhearson is a big fan.
