The Kansas City Chiefs will need all hands on deck this upcoming week, as they will be set to play in the divisional round of the playoffs, meaning – two wins and they are in the Super Bowl. So, there is a chance we could see some players used a bit more.

One in particular could be used more than we saw in the regular season. Ronald Jones, the Chiefs current third string running back with Clyde Edwards-Helaire injured, could get some more run based on what we saw the last few weeks of the regular season.

Jones did not play in a game until Week 12, and played in just six games this season.

When he was signed in the off-season, I think everyone was under the impression he would be the second string running back behind Edwards-Helaire. During training came we quickly found out that just was not the case.

He ended up falling behind Edwards-Helaire, Isiah Pacheco, and Jerick McKinnon on the depth chart, and was widely thought to be a cut candidate at the 53-man roster deadline.

Jones was inactive every week until Week 12, as he finally got his shot to show the Chiefs what he could do.

However, he only had four rushes for 12 yards. In Week 13 he only played special teams, and then after that he got one rush per game in Week 15,16, and 17. But, in those one rush attempts, he ran hard, and was not exactly easy to bring down.

Then, in Week 18, he showed exactly why the Chiefs should have given him just a little more reps during the season. Jones went 10 for 45 against the Raiders, which comes out at 4.5 yards per carry.

Why could the Chiefs use him a bit more in the playoffs? Well, there’s a very good reason why.

Kansas City played a long, great season, and ended with 14 wins, tying their highest win total in the regular season in franchise history. Pacheco and McKinnon ran their tails off this season, and frankly Jones, well, he didn’t. The Chiefs may need some fresh legs, and Jones could provide that.
