The Kansas City Chiefs have had yet another great regular season capped off by a huge win over their rival Las Vegas Raiders. I mean, what better way to end the regular season and head into the playoffs than by demolishing the Raiders and ending their season on a bad note?
While everyone was worried about the offense and how it looked without Tyreek Hill, the defense was making moves, and quickly became one of the more slept-on units in the league.
Why is that? Well, if someone were to ask me, I would say Chris Jones, the best defensive tackle in the league right now.
If you were to ask him, he would not say himself. I mean, you expect that from every player, right? But, Jones revealed the real reason he had the best season of his career in 2022.
"My supporting cast, those guys, have been able to free me up, and (DL assistant) Joe Cullen completely transformed my game," Jones said after the Chiefs' win over Las Vegas.
This team, behind Jones' 15 sacks, shut down some really good offenses at times during games. The pass rush was amazing, too, actually, the second-best pass rush in the league.
With 55 sacks the season, the Chiefs finished second in the league in sacks, behind the Eagles insane 70 sacks. The Chiefs finished the season just five sacks short of tying the franchise record.
That is how good this defense has been, and while Jones doesn't want to admit it or take any credit, it's because of his play. This is a guy that should be in the defensive player of the year conversation. Jones was different this season, and I think we will see some of the same in the playoffs, similar to what we saw the defense do in 2019.
