The Kansas City Chiefs' defense was on a different level this year, especially in the second half of the season. I think we have said it about 1 million times this season, that they have improved so much, and they will only get better because of how young they are.

On Sunday, they became so close to accomplishing one thing this season that has never been done by the Chiefs before.

That's right, this defense statistically, well, the pass rush I should say, is one of the best in Chiefs' history. Who would have thought coming into this season that we would be talking about the defense doing something like that?

I know I didn't. To be honest, coming into this season I was a bit worried about the defense because of all the rookies they would be playing. Turns out I was wrong, and I'll gladly be wrong.

The Chiefs finished with 55 sacks on the year, which is good enough for the second most in the league. And, here is the kicker, if the Eagles' pass rush didn't go bonkers this year with 70, and get two shy of the all-time record, we could have been talking about the best pass rush.

55 is really good, which is why the Chiefs are second in the league. But, it isn't the best the Chiefs have done in a season. However, it is pretty close.

In 1990, the Kansas City Chiefs finished with 60 sacks on the year, which is the most sacks by a Chiefs team in the history of the franchise.

That was the year the late great Derrick Thomas had 20 sacks, and Neil Smith was a half-sack away from 10. It is fair to say that defense, and that pass rush was insanely good.

The Chiefs nearly matched that as they fell behind by just five sacks, and no one thought this would be the team that comes close to breaking the Chiefs record.

Hopefully we can see this team continue to dominate with their pass rush moving forward. They get a rest in the first week of the playoffs with the number one seed bye week, then they will need their defense.
