The two best teams all season long made the Super Bowl in the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. I think we can all agree that for the majority of the season, these two stood above the rest, which is why they both were number one seeds. When they play in the Super Bowl, they will add to history and join elite company.
The Super Bowl has had some great teams in the past, and great matchups at that. There is so much history in February when it comes to the league, and the Eagles and the Chiefs are part of that now.
The Chiefs have been in within the last three years, and now three times within the last four seasons while being one crucial play away from two more appearances as well.
In 2019, they completed the 10-point comeback against San Francisco, where they ended up hoisting the Lombardi in Miami. The next year, they were obliterated by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-9.
This team has seen both the highs and the lows of the Super Bowl.
The Eagles, well they won it not too long ago too. In 2017 we saw a Doug Pederson-led team, with their backup quarterback Nick Foles take on Brady and slay the giant.
Now, these two teams are back at the top. These two franchises are two of the most respected franchises in football, and this season showed why. They were the best teams, which is why they both won 14 games.
Now both teams will join elite company.
Per Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports, this Super Bowl is the third Super Bowl matchup where each team won at least 14 games in the regular season.
The other two were the 1984 Super Bowl between the 49ers and Dolphins and in 1998 between the Broncos and Falcons.
All four of those teams were very, very good, and I'd even say elite considering how far they made it. And, these two teams are joining them.
