The Kansas City Chiefs' defense has come on now, and I think the entire league is starting to take notice. What better time to do it than now, right before the playoffs start? And, what Patrick Mahomes had to say about them after the game will only concern the rest of the AFC playoff teams.

The Chiefs have been making all the headlines as of late because of their offense, but not for the right reasons. Yeah, if you didn't know much about this team and watched their win over the Raiders, you wouldn't think the offense had a problem.

However, that unit hasn't played up to its full potential as of late.

While everyone has been talking about that, there is another topic everyone should be focusing on, and that is the play of the defense. On Saturday they put on a show on that side of the ball. In fact, they are showing that teams in the playoffs not only have to worry about the Chiefs' offense but their defense too.

If you ask Mahomes, they are finally playing to their potential.

“I mean all the veterans have led those guys all season long and all those young DBs [defensive backs] have grown up now, and I mean that's a great offense," Mahomes said in the post-game interview done by ESPN.

"I mean they have playmakers everywhere and they did a great job and we had a great first half, we played in the second half, but we'll keep it rolling.”

This defense has five rookies that play significant roles on that side of the ball. Not all five start, but they all play very crucial snaps for this team. The secondary has three rookies alone in safety Bryan Cook, and cornerbacks Joshua Williams and Jaylen Watson.

It is fair to say this defense is young. But, it is also fair to say that Mahomes is right, they are growing up. They now have a full regular season under their belt, and as a whole, they will only get better, and that includes past this week.

This defense can be a problem like they were on Saturday. The Chiefs shut down a good offense. They held the Raiders to 13 points after the "best defense in the league" in the 49ers allowed them to score 34 points in their backup quarterback's first career start.

I'd say this defense is doing work right now, and the teams in the playoffs should easily be concerned.
