The Philadelphia Eagles have been here before, but the team is a lot different than the last time they were in the Super Bowl. The Chiefs, well, they have been to the Super Bowl three times now in the last three years.
So, it is fair to say the Chiefs have a bit more experience in these situations than the Eagles do. I mean, the roster from 2017 is completely different than the one now.
Then, when they beat the Patriots, their starting quarterback was Carson Wentz.
But, he was dealing with an injury and the backup quarterback Nick Foles came in and won the whole thing against the greatest to ever do it in Tom Brady.
Now Jalen Hurts, who has only started two full seasons now and is in his third season overall, is their starting quarterback. Now they have A.J. Brown who was in college at that time. In fact, Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Fletcher Cox, and Brandon Graham may have been the only guys on that team, or at least the only ones to play valuable snaps.
Things have changed for sure. They were the underdogs by a mile in that game. In this one, a lot of people have the Eagles winning because of how balanced they are as a team. Not to mention the fact that Patrick Mahomes may be a bit beat up as well.
There is one other thing that is different for one specific player though.
"Little older, little wiser, little balder," right tackle Lane Johnson said.
Johnson was in his fifth season in 2017 and was a first-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro. Now he is in his 10th season and is widely considered the best right tackle in the league.
And on Sunday in the Super Bowl, he will be tasked with trying to keep Carlos Dunlap, who has over 100 career sacks, Defensive Player of the Year candidate Chris Jones, and the third-highest guy in postseason sacks in NFL history in Frank Clark, among some other guys as well, to not getting to the quarterback.
He can do it, but it won't be easy. That's where the "little wiser" part will come in handy.
