Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles are heading into a massive 2026 season, and with that comes the inevitable contract extension chatter. Hurts currently ranks 11th among NFL quarterbacks in annual salary, and the talking heads want to know when Howie Roseman is going to reset the market for his franchise signal-caller. Roseman sat down with Kay Adams during her visit to Eagles training camp, and his answers painted a pretty clear picture of where this organization stands on its quarterback.

“When you are around somebody for as long as you’ve been around, you’ve got a pretty good feel about who the person is and who the player is,” Roseman said.

That’s not a guy promising a deal gets done tomorrow. But it’s also not a guy distancing himself from his quarterback. It almost feels like a challenge, a quiet acknowledgment that both sides know the value here.

The extension panic is overblown

Personally, I don’t understand why everybody is forcing this narrative as if the Eagles are going to lose Jalen Hurts next offseason without a new deal. Hurts still has three years remaining on his contract, including this season. He’s still making $51 million per year. I know it’s wild for me to say, but the man is going to be fine.

I think this is part of a strategic move by Roseman. And if Jalen truly wants to win and wants this collective unit to be the best it can be, considering all the young talented players Philadelphia has to pay on both sides of the ball, then maybe right now is not the time to sign that extension. The reason Howie got it done so early the first time around was because he wanted flexibility. Now he has that flexibility. Why rush to give it away?

We live in this era where before a guy is going to hit free agency three or four years down the road, you have to hand him another contract. I don’t think that should be the case, and I don’t think it’s an indictment on Jalen whatsoever. We know how accomplished he is. We know he’s a winner. Sure, he has to continue proving it, and the Eagles have to bounce back this season. But maybe the organization just wants to maintain its financial flexibility. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Roseman’s endorsement sends a big message

Here’s where it gets telling.

“He’s been thrown a lot of offensive coordinators and he hasn’t blinked,” the GM added. “The guy continuously overcomes adversity, never complains, and he puts his head down and he goes to work.”

Now compare that to how Howie handled the A.J. Brown situation. All Roseman said during those trade discussions was something along the lines of, “Yeah, A.J.’s still a Philadelphia Eagle.” That was it. No passion, no conviction. With Hurts, he’s giving a big endorsement. He’s backing his quarterback the same way Jeffrey Lurie has. Why? Because they love Jalen Hurts. Because Jalen has won. Because he’s been to two Super Bowls. He should have two Super Bowl MVPs. He has one, and there’s a really good chance that a guy just entering his prime could add another before his career is over.

“He knows what it means to be an Eagle,” Roseman mentioned. “I think that’s a great example of what we are looking for. I’m excited for him with the players he has around him, the leadership he displays, and the coaching staff.”

So no, it’s not a guarantee they will extend Hurts this offseason. But everything about these comments suggests this relationship is rock solid. There’s nothing to be concerned about.

Hurts is backing it up on the field

And if you needed any more reassurance, Vic Fangio offered some praise as well.

“I think Jalen’s having a good camp,” Fangio said. “I think he looks faster.”

That means Hurts is putting in the work, getting in better shape, and showing up ready to prove the doubters wrong. The extension will eventually come. For now, the Eagles have their guy locked up, the roster is loaded, and Jalen Hurts is running around training camp looking faster than ever.
