Nick Sirianni dropped one of the most headlining comments of the past few weeks, and if you read between the lines even a little bit, you know exactly who he was talking about. Speaking about the decision to hire offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, the Eagles head coach said, “it wasn’t necessarily a system I was after. It was more of somebody that had conviction, had confidence, and was an expert in what they were going to teach.”

You can try to package that any way you want. The fact of the matter is, that’s a direct shot at Kevin Patullo. Despite being Sirianni’s guy, Patullo did not know what he was doing. He had no conviction. He did not know what he was trying to teach. The man didn’t even know where he was in a third quarter on first-and-10. Sirianni is essentially telling everybody that the previous regime lacked the confidence and expertise to run an NFL offense at a high level, and he went out and found someone who actually checks those boxes.

Sirianni also emphasized that it’s not just about installing a system. It’s about building relationships, honing in on your craft, and recognizing where you need to get better during the year. And I think Sean Mannion is going to be that guy for Philadelphia. I know it’s a little fearful knowing he hasn’t been a coordinator before, but the Eagles are trying to get ahead of the 8-ball here, and the early returns from training camp suggest they might have found something special.

According to ESPN’s Tim McManus, the Eagles’ offense has undergone a transformation under Mannion. Here’s what they’re seeing at camp: Jalen Hurts operating under center more. Motion on nearly every play. Heavy play-action usage. A new rushing scheme. More designed runs for Hurts. More passes in the middle of the field. Every single one of those is a positive development, and every single one of those is something we were pulling our hair out about last season because it simply wasn’t there.

This is exactly what Kellen Moore did when the offense was humming. This is what we wanted to see Patullo carry over, but he went the complete opposite direction. Mannion is using common sense, coming in and installing all the concepts Eagles fans were begging for while watching the offense stagnate last year. So thank you, Sean Mannion. The Eagles found a gem, and I firmly believe at this point that he’s going to be a really good coordinator. I know that sounds crazy without even seeing a regular season snap, but that’s how I’m feeling based on everything coming out of camp.

On top of the schematic overhaul, practice reports indicate a few things worth paying attention to. He reported that Dontayvion Wicks, Darius Cooper, and Elijah Moore each had multiple catches from Hurts during team drills. The expectation is that Philadelphia will spread the ball around much more in 2026, which is music to everybody’s ears after watching the passing game feel so stale and predictable last season.

The motion element is worth doubling down on as well. Camp observers noted a solid amount of pre-snap movement from the offense and even some plays with wide receivers motioning into the backfield. That kind of creativity and deception is what separates good offenses from great ones in today’s NFL.

The Eagles found their next McVay-Shanahan type, and they’re finally going to deceive defenses the way a roster this talented should. With all of these playmakers moving around and the amount of skill-position talent on this team, there is no reason this offense shouldn’t jump up to being a top 10 unit.
