The Tennessee Titans are reportedly hiring San Francisco 49ers director of player personnel Ran Carthon as their next General Manager, as first reported by Dianna Russini of ESPN.

Carthon has spent seven seasons in the 49ers front office, the last two as the director of player personnel. He is responsible for the team's evaluation of college talent and pro scouting for free agency, as well as market analysis for every free agent class. Carthon has had a direct hand in assembling one of the best rosters in the NFL in 2022 and contributed to the sustained success in San Francisco working under the tutelage of John Lynch.

The 49ers had the best defense in the NFL in 2022, allowing the fewest points and yards per game. Carthon was part of the staff that scouted and drafted Nick Bosa, Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw, and Talanoa Hufanga among others.

For a Titans team that lacked explosive offensive weapons in 2022, they are now bringing in an executive that has seen first-hand how offensive playmakers can change an offense, and knows how to build around talent at premium positions.

The Titans concluded an interview with Buffalo Bills Senior Director of Pro Scouting Malik Boyd on Tuesday morning, and then had a second interview with Chicago Bears assistant General Manager Ian Cunningham before zeroing in on Carthon as their man. That quick of a turnaround must mean he stood out from the crowd.

Pulling from a well-oiled machine like the 49ers is a home run hire that should get Titans fans fired up for the direction of the franchise.
