The Kansas City Chiefs got news on Friday that will have a major impact on their offseason.

According to multiple reports, the Washington Commanders are expected to hire Eric Bieniemy to take over as their offensive coordinator.

Bieniemy has served as Kansas City's offensive coordinator since 2018. He's been a critical part of Patrick Mahomes' meteoric rise as the best quarterback in the NFL.

The idea behind Bieniemy's departure from KC is that he can "prove himself" as a great offensive mind while working under a defensive-minded head coach in Ron Rivera.

Bieniemy has been passed over for numerous head coaching jobs. Several of the candidates that have been hired for head coaching jobs instead of him have already been fired.

With Bieniemy off to Washington (assuming the deal is completed), the assumption is that the Chiefs will promote senior assistant/quarterbacks coach Matt Nagy to offensive coordinator.

Nagy previously served as Kansas City's offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2017. He was also on Reid's Philadelphia Eagles staff for several years.

Mahomes was a rookie and only played one game in 2017 during Nagy's last season as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator. Mahomes, however, has spoken highly of Nagy in recent years.

It's certainly possible that Reid could go outside the organization to hire an offensive coordinator, but that would be a surprise.
