The Buffalo Bills enter the 2023 offseason with only six selections in the upcoming NFL Draft. Unfortunately, a recent update is going to push one of those selections further back than expected.
Back in November, the Bills traded RB Zach Moss and a conditional sixth-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts for Nyheim Hines. Now the conditional pick being sent to Indy is in fact going to be a fifth-round pick.
While the exact conditions of the trade hadn't been reported, they've been met enough to improve the Colts draft pick.
On the season, Hines wasn't used on offense as much. With most of the Bills running back snaps going to Devin Singletary and James Cook.
Hines' 43 possessions (carries and receptions combined) result in 224 yards and two touchdowns. However it is his impact as a returner that gives the Bills the largest effect.
35 combined punt and kick returns for 707 yards and two touchdowns.
The Buffalo Bills won't be big spenders in free agency, so the loss of draft position hurts the team-building for 2023. However, getting one of the best gadget players and return men in the league for a Day 3 pick is easy compensation.
Hines is owed no more guaranteed money on his current deal and the Bills can get out of his contract this offseason if they choose. Time will tell if Hines factors into their plans at the position moving forward.
