WATCH: Former Vols baseball star is lighting up the MLB
Ex-players continue to make Volunteers baseball program look good in the MLB
The Tennessee Vols, once again, look like a top team in SEC college baseball.
The pitching is going to be quite impressive again, and young players are stepping up at the plate. Their weekend rotation is arguably the most talented in the country. They'll always have the power in their lineup.
One potential question mark could be their bullpen, but some veteran leadership has it on the right track so far.
One piece from their bullpen of from recent years, Ben Joyce, is already putting the MLB on notice during spring training. Joyce was known for his flamethrower of an arm during his time with the Vols.
The Tennessee RHP hit 105 MPH on multiple occasions and holds the record for the hardest-thrown pitch in college baseball history. His arm talent is unique and remarkable.
That's why the Los Angeles Angels took Joyce in the third round of the 2022 MLB Draft.
The former Vols pitcher is soaring through the minors and could see time at the MLB level sooner than some may expect.
He lit up radar guns during his first appearance this past weekend for the Angels.
Joyce struck out two batters and had a clean inning for the Angels.
As always, his fastball was in the triple digits. His off-speed stuff looks improved and will only continue to get better with more development.
The Angels project the former Vols flamethrower to be their closer of the future – most likely.
He's off to a great start at the pro level. Vols fans will be excited to see Joyce perform at the highest level.
