The New Orleans Saints have one thing off of their checklist this offseason and that's getting their starting quarterback.

Derek Carr signed a four-year deal with the Saints on Monday, giving them quite the advantage at the quarterback position in the NFL South.

However, some speculation threatened to change that.

The Atlanta Falcons are in the market for a new starting quarterback as well after releasing Marcus Mariota. Rumors floated around about them possibly going after Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Dianna Russini of ESPN quickly shut down that notion after Jackson was hit with the non-exclusive franchise tag on Tuesday by the Ravens as she reported that the Falcons won't pursue the former NFL MVP.

Whew, talk about a sigh of relief.

Had this taken place, no disrespect to Carr at all, but the Falcons would have easily had the best quarterback in the NFC South and it would have made things more difficult for the Saints to take over the division after Tom Brady retired from Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

As it stands at the moment, Carr is still the top signal-caller in the division and the Saints remain the front-runner to take the crown away from the Buccaneers.
