Giants: Analyzing contract details in Darren Waller trade
Here’s a look at what New York is taking on.
New York is getting one heck of a player in Darren Waller. The talk of free agency, the Giants are sure to "win the week."
There may be one problem lurking behind the scenes, or more so in plain sight now that it's being highlighted.
The contract.
On the surface that looks like a lot, especially for a player with an injury history and at the age of 30. Athletes can perform well into their 30s but you don't tend to get healthier if your prevailing record shows otherwise.
But thanks to our friends at Over The Cap, we can go beneath the surface of this deal, and realize that the Giants actually may win the trade.
Waller's last year of guaranteed salary is for 2023 and at a figure of $8.25 million.
That means they could potentially void his contract and cut bait as soon as next year, should things not pan out.
But let's not harp on that and instead rejoice that the tight-end search is over for "Big Blue."
