Eagles All-Pro defender sticking around after reports of impending release?
The Eagles would have one less need to fill.
Hours after Darius Slay tweeted his farewell to Philadelphia, the Eagles appear to be keeping their All-Pro cornerback after all.
The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, who first reported Slay would be cut after the cornerback tweeted, "Nothing but love Philly!! Lets see where we heading next..” reported that, “After informing Darius Slay of an impending release, the Eagles are working to find a way to keep their cornerback, per source. Nothing final just yet.”
Slay's wife certainly seems to think they're sticking around.
This is an ideal situation for the Eagles, who already re-signed his cornerback counterpart in James Bradberry. Slay, 32, is still one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL. It was reported earlier this offseason that Philadelphia had permitted him to seek a trade partner. So, we’ve not gone from Slay being on the Eagles, to possibly being traded, to expected to being cut to now potentially sticking around on the squad.
If Slay does stick around, it’s one less hole to fill on a talented but depleting roster.
