Defensive tackle Nathan Shepherd got his first significant payday in the NFL this week when he signed with the New Orleans Saints.

The details of Shepherd's contract have come to light.

Shepherd gets a three-year for $15 million with a $5 million signing bonus and $10.18 million in guarantees.

Here's a breakdown of his base salary and cap hits:

2023: $1.08 million (fully guaranteed); cap hit $2.08 million

2024: $4.1 million (fully guaranteed); cap hit $5.1 million

2025: $4.3 million (roster bonus $520k); cap hit $5.82 million

2026 and 2027 are void years.

Shepherd had two previous contracts with the New York Jets but never averaged more than $1.085 million annually. Now, he gets $5 million per year with the Saints and joins a defense that's one of the better units of its kind in the NFL.
