Why Arkansas LB Drew Sanders still has a LONG WAY to go: NFL Draft Film Breakdown
In this film breakdown, we take a look at Arkansas LB Drew Sanders, a former 5-star prospect.
Sanders is a freak athlete, measuring at 6'4 235 lbs, with outstanding length and speed for someone his size. He is a tough evaluation for me, because his athleticism is the main driving force behind his success, yet he doesn't have a true position. Sanders' size helps him tremendously in some areas of his game, but hurts him a lot in others too, as he has trouble breaking down and making the play that a smaller backer would likely make. He is a great block shedder and can rush the passer well, but outside of that, I have trouble getting excited about him at the next level.
Strengths:
- Versatility: Sanders is a versatile player who can play multiple positions. He has experience playing both linebacker and defensive end, which makes him a valuable asset to any team.
- Athleticism: Sanders has excellent athleticism for a linebacker. He is quick, agile, and has good lateral movement, which allows him to make plays in the open field.
- Pass Rushing: Sanders is a strong pass rusher. He has good instincts and timing, which allows him to disrupt opposing quarterbacks.
- Tackling: Sanders is a sound tackler. He is strong and has good technique, which allows him to bring down ball carriers effectively.
- Football IQ: Sanders has a high football IQ. He is able to read and diagnose plays quickly, which allows him to be in the right position to make a play.
Weaknesses:
- Size: Sanders is slightly undersized for a traditional linebacker. He is listed at 6'5" and 232 pounds, which may make it difficult for him to take on larger offensive linemen.
- Coverage: Sanders' coverage skills are still developing. While he has the athleticism to keep up with receivers, he may struggle with more complex coverage schemes.
- Strength: While Sanders is a strong tackler, he may need to add more strength to his frame in order to take on larger offensive linemen.
- Consistency: Sanders can be inconsistent at times. He has shown flashes of brilliance, but needs to be more consistent in order to reach his full potential.
