There shouldn't be a Detroit Lions fan on the planet that is surprised by this news for a second. D'Andre Swift was a great draft prospect that many wanted to see succeed in Detroit, but the writing has been on the wall for his time with this team for a while now.
Swift struggled to establish himself as the top guy for the Lions for his three years, and now it seems even less likely that this happens based on the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Right or wrong, the selection of Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs with the 12th-overall pick complicates matters greatly for Swift in Detroit.
In light of the shakeup to the likely depth chart, discussions immediately began that Swift could be on the move. Now, those suspicions have been confirmed with the recent news from Jeremy Fowler.
Fowler reports that the trade calls have already started rolling in for the Lions. That means the end has to be far closer than initially believed.
Based on Swift's pedigree and some quality tape (if not a little inconsistent), one has to believe that an offer will come through that the Lions have no choice but to accept.
It would be nice to have a running back room with three guys that can start as needed, but it seems like a long shot that the Lions would be able to pull something like this off and keep everyone happy.
