OT Broderick Jones is NOT ELITE, he's a one trick pony: NFL Draft Film Breakdown
In this film breakdown, we take a look at Georgia LT Broderick Jones, who most see as the 3rd best OT in this draft class.
The more I watch Jones' tape from college, the more worried I get about him at the next level. He is excellent in space, when he gets to hunt defenders down and use his athleticism. However, he is a stiff blocker in pass pro, and his grip strength isn't enough to allow him to just latch onto defenders. He is a great athlete, and has a very high ceiling, however, I'm not quite sold on Broderick Jones yet as some complete and elite prospect.
Strengths:
- Athleticism: Jones has a great combination of size, speed, and agility for an offensive tackle, allowing him to move well in pass protection and be effective in run blocking.
- Length: Jones has long arms and good hand placement, which allows him to keep defenders at bay and maintain leverage in pass protection and run blocking.
- Versatility: Jones has played both left and right tackle in high school and college, demonstrating his ability to adapt to different positions on the offensive line.
- Technique: Jones has a good understanding of proper technique and fundamentals, which allows him to execute his assignments effectively and consistently.
Weaknesses:
- Strength: While Jones has good athleticism, he could stand to add more strength to his frame in order to better handle powerful defensive linemen at the NFL level.
- Inconsistency: Jones has shown flashes of brilliance on the field, but he can be inconsistent at times, especially in pass protection.
- Footwork: While Jones has good footwork overall, he can sometimes get caught flat-footed or struggle with his footwork when dealing with quick or agile pass rushers.
- Awareness: Jones can sometimes struggle with recognizing and reacting to blitzes and stunts by opposing defenses, which can lead to mistakes and breakdowns in protection.
