The San Francisco 49ers are a team to watch for in 2023 because of how good they are, but one analyst thinks one particular matchup is one you can't miss.
The 49ers were one quarterback away from making the Super Bowl last year, in some people's opinion, so it's safe to say that after making the additions they did, they could be slated to be right back in the same position as in 2022.
It helps that the division isn't as good as it has been historically with the Cardinals and Rams as two teams who just aren't very good. So, them being atop the division, and the historic team they are, we could see a ton of great matchups that feature a team wearing red and gold.
The 49ers' schedule doesn't look extremely hard, but it also has some games that will test the 49ers to see how good they truly are before they play in the postseason. Week 8 against the Cincinnati Bengals is one example of that, as they play another team who was in the championship game last year just before their bye week.
There is one matchup that stands out though to fans and media. In fact, one CBS Sports analyst listed the 49ers in the top 1-0 can't-miss games of the 2023 season with them playing an AFC Foe.
6. Ravens at 49ers (Week 16)
Monday, Dec. 25 | 8:15 p.m. ET
A rematch of Super Bowl XLVII, when the 49ers were the ones with the scramble-happy QB, this one pits two of the NFL's best-rushing teams against each other, and not only that but on Christmas night with postseason spots likely up for grabs. Who knows who'll be under center in San Francisco, but the shootout potential is there. – Cody Benjamin, CBS Sports
The 49ers will be hosting Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in December on Christmas Day, so we think. Sure, this can turn out to be a really good game, however, there is one thing we are forgetting.
In the last two seasons, December hasn't been kind to Jackson. The last two seasons have saw Jackson miss five December games, three in 2022 and two in 2021, and two games in early January last year. Jackson hasn't been consistently healthy since his MVP season, and the 49ers could be potentially playing Tyler Huntley, the Ravens' backup quarterback.
But, if Jackson does play, it could definitely be a great matchup. That Ravens offense against the 49ers defense will be a great matchup nonetheless.
