The Dallas Cowboys will be a powerhouse defensively once again in 2023 due in large part to one player, All-Pro Micah Parsons.

Parsons was a part-time pass rusher as a rookie (logged 374 snaps on the defensive line) but still put up 13 sacks. In 2022, Parsons played 738 snaps as an edge rusher and racked up 13.5 more sacks.

Last week, Parsons spoke on how he was bulking up this offseason to prepare for a possible full-time role playing on the edge, and he's also been doing work with retired offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth. However, Cowboys' defensive coordinator Dan Quinn brought more insight into the point Parsons was trying to get across.

“He’s a pass-rushing linebacker," Quinn said. "If you ever need position changes, come to me. What I think he was probably trying to say is, ‘I’m really emphasizing some pass rush into my offseason.’”

Well, that makes a lot of sense.

Parsons has the speed and power coming off the edge to be a full-time pass rusher, and he'd probably be the best in the NFL at it if that's all he focused on. In terms of his skill set, though, Parsons just can't be reduced to one thing.

At 6'3" and currently 252 pounds, Parsons uses 4.39 speed to be a menace navigating sideline to sideline or through gaps when defending the run. Parsons is so diverse with what he brings to the table that he's even registered 27 snaps in the slot, 10 at cornerback, and he's even logged a free safety rep in the NFL.

Parsons has mastered a lot about getting to the quarterback from the edge and he will certainly learn plenty more in the future to keep being a dominant pass rusher. However, Parsons is a swiss army knife with an unlimited amount of capabilities, so utilizing his entire tool bag is something Quinn will continue to do.
