The San Francisco 49ers currently have one of the weirdest quarterback situations in the league, but one of their QBs just got crazy praise from a guy who sees his best every day.
The 49ers' defense is one of the best in the league; it's the best, and maybe by a wide margin. The defense only got better heading into the 2023 season too. Now, think about how good that makes the quarterbacks, considering they play the best defense in the league daily.
Trey Lance was a top-five pick, so we know the talent is there, and we know the 49ers saw something in him. Now we are just waiting for it all to come together. This could be the offseason for that, and what one of the 49ers' best defenders said about Lance should only give fans confidence about his progression so far.
"I've seen a young guy come in and really start to mature," Armstead told reporters. "You got to remember that Trey is still really extremely young and didn't have much experience, and the more experience you stack, the better you are.
"I think that he's had a tremendous OTAs and looked very well. You know, I'm really excited for him and his career, and so I think the sky is the limit for Trey and I think he's an extreme talent that just needed to stack up those reps."
With all of the rumblings we have heard this offseason involving Trey Lance and the possibility of him being traded, he has responded very well. The young gun has handled the pressure of being a top-five pick and people calling him a potential bust.
But that doesn't mean he won't have to fight for the starting quarterback job. Sure, this room is one of the most complicated quarterback rooms in the league, if not the most, but it's also very deep. Three guys could be the starter Week 1.
Having a great offseason, OTAs, and minicamp is the start of winning that job, and that's exactly what he's trying to do.
