For an NFL player, you will always hit a bit of a crossroads in your career. Injuries, age, or situation can put a player in a "make or break" type of spot. For New Orleans Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas, this season is a massive one for his future in the league.
Thomas has struggled with injuries over the past three seasons. After a historic 2019 season, he hasn't seen the field nearly enough for New Orleans. The Saints WR set the record for receptions in a season in 2019.
Since then, he's played in just ten games. Accordingly, the Saints re-worked his contract for this season. NFL.com's Nick Shook says that Thomas is one of the top players in the league that is facing a crossroads this year. He's absolutely right.
It's likely time to produce or move on for Thomas, who should have a better chance of succeeding now that Derek Carr is at quarterback. But none of that matters if Thomas can't stay healthy. — Shook
Thomas' deal this season is focused on incentives. If he doesn't produce, he simply won't make nearly them deny that he could if he performs like all Saints fans know that he can. Luckily, he's stayed healthy so far this season.
During minicamp, he looked dominant, and Thomas needs to be that type of player in order for the Saints offense to hit its ceiling. Keep an eye on him this year. Thomas will face the most pressure of his entire career in 2023.
