Not only am I A to Z Sports Detroit Lions beat writer, I'm also their resident hat expert. Some people are sneaker heads and some people collect cards, I do both of those things. But I also collect a lot of hats and have a lot of thoughts and feelings about hats. 

The NFL released their sideline hats on Monday and I have thoughts and feelings on them. I even have a question or two. Here's what they look like. 

What the hell is this? That's my question. That also relates to my feelings. The first time I saw this hat, I made the same face that Penei Sewell is making in the featured image of this piece. Just shock and awe in the worst ways. 

The two tone is bad enough, but the giant NFL shield in the right panel is just horrible. There is no style ability with this hat. It looks like a failure from 2002. It looks like something that Chingy would have worn in a music video. Ask your parents who Chingy is kids. 

The pain doesn't stop there. They released it in another color way. 

Please make it stop. It's been a bad year for hats for the NFL. The draft hats were ok, the camp hats were pretty bad and now the sideline hats are God awful. Our only hope remains with the Thanksgiving hats that only sometimes get released. There was no Thanksgiving option last season. 

Don't worry though Lions fans, they did release one hat as part of the sideline collection that's actually pretty nice. 

While I'm not the biggest fan of this logo, I will say that this hat is actually pretty sharp. There's a two tone here too, but it's done right. The front panel is white and the rest of the panels are a light grey. The Honolulu blue bill really makes it pop. This is a hat that I would surely purchase.
