It's been quite a couple days for Detroit Lions fans. On Saturday veteran defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs was absent from Allen Park during practice. On Sunday he put out a cryptic tweet that had everyone wondering hat was going on.
He returned to practice on Monday and spoke with media afterwards. It turns out that Buggs will be a healthy scratch from the Lions season opener against the Chiefs.
This could certainly explain Buggs Twitter activity. Some Lions fans say he removed a photo of himself in a Lions jersey and removed all Lions stuff from his bio over the weekend before making his cryptic tweet. The benching is not likely because of the social media activity. The social media activity is likely because of the benching.
Buggs did say that he was going to continue to be a team player through all of this.
It became clear at the end of camp that Benito Jones and Levi Onwuzurike could wind up passing Buggs on the depth chart. Buggs playing so late into the Lions final preseason game really showed that Jones had simply had a better camp.
As to the idea that Buggs could be traded soon, there doesn't seem to be anything to that at this time. This could be nothing more than Buggs being upset that he will have to sit out the first game of the year.
