DeAndre Hopkins reached out to the Lions, never got a call back

Here's an interesting one for the Detroit Lions just a few hours before they start their 2023 season against the Kansas City Chiefs. Apparently Tennessee Titans receiver DeAndre Hopkins wanted to play for the Detroit Lions in 2023 and went as far as calling the Lions to tell them that.

“There were some teams that I had on my list that I gave them calls and they didn’t give a call back." Hopkins told GQ in an exclusive interview. “Detroit Lions, they didn’t want me."

That's quite the story. Turns out that the Lions just weren't interested in bringing in Hopkins and never called him back. The Lions weren't the only team. The Cowboys, Giants and 49ers all neglected to return his calls as well.

It makes sense when you think about it real deeply. I thought that Hopkins would have been a great fit for the Lions, but when you consider that he was suspended in 2022 for violating the leagues performance enhancing drugs policy and then missed half the 2021 season with an injury before that, Hopkins looks like a real risk. Throw in the fact that he's 31 years old and you can see why teams might have been a little cautious.

Hopkins seems to have take this personally though.

I’m very grateful for where I am, I think I made the best decision,” Hopkins said. “But when you’re a player and some people feel like they’re great without you, and then you see what they have on paper, or you see what they do, you mark those games down, as a competitor. I can't wait to play' em and, honestly, try my best to crush they ass.”

Hopkins won't get a shot to do that against the Lions this year since the Titans are not on the schedule. Actually he won't play against any of those teams this year. He might have to wait till next year to get his revenge.
