Tyler Boyd could've been the unquestioned hero of the Cincinnati Bengals coming back to beat the Houston Texans. Instead, he's the main culprit of a crushing 30-27 defeat.
Boyd dropped a wide open touchdown pass from Joe Burrow with just over a 1:30 remaining in the game. It wasn't even a minute prior that Burrow connected with Boyd for 64 yards to get the ball inside the 10-yard line. Burrow made sure to mention that after the loss.
“We wouldn’t have even been down there if it wasn’t for him," Burrow said of Boyd's clutch catch and run. ”Obviously you'd like to come down with it, but we were able to come down and tie it up."
The drop proved costly as the Texans had ample time to drive into scoring range and kick the game-winning 38-yard field goal at the buzzer, their second walk-off win in as many weeks.
Drops and Boyd are usually the opposite of synonymous, but it was the second one of the day for the eighth-year veteran. He was the Cincinnati's main weapon for Burrow with Tee Higgins out and Ja'Marr Chase less involved than usual with his back injury.
Boyd declined to comment after the game, but his quarterback had his back at the podium.
