Bengals may have to go up against a familiar face on his new team very soon after cutting him
The Cincinnati Bengals let Mitchell Tinsley go with Dohnte Myers officially winning his roster spot. Tinsley opted to join a new team’s practice squad, and the regular season schedule may now help grant him an opportunity for revenge.
The Cincinnati Bengals have watched a handful of their former players land on practice squads around the NFL. None may be more talented than wide receiver Mitchell Tinsley.
Cincinnati let Tinsley go Sunday with Dohnte Myers officially winning his roster spot. He cleared waivers and became available to sign with any other team. It would’ve made complete sense for the Bengals to bring him back to their practice squad, but Tinsley had other plans.
Those plans could bring him face-to-face with his now former team very soon.
Mitchell Tinsley chooses to sign with Houston Texans’ practice squad
Tinsley is set to join the practice squad for the Houston Texans this week pending a successful physical with the club. The Texans didn’t hold back their desire to add new receiver talent following cutdown day. Receivers Daniel Sobkowicz, Josh Kelly, and Lewis Bond will all welcome Tinsley on Houston’s practice squad.
When looking at the Texans’ 53-man roster, it’s clear to see why.
Houston is only roster during five wideouts at the moment with two starters, Tank Dell and Jaydon Higgins, starting the season on the reserve/injured list. Nico Collins is currently the only healthy starter on the team.
Tinsley wisely chose a practice squad for a team in need of receiver depth. Cincinnati feels very confident in its six-man receiving corps, and at least two receivers will be on the practice squad in Jordan Moore and Noah Thomas. The odds of Tinsley finding his footing back with the Bengals were not as high as him seeing the field with another team like the Texans.
As fate would have it, Tinsley could even see the field against Cincinnati this month.
Possible revenge game for Tinsley is coming up soon
The Bengals’ first road game of the 2026 regular season takes them down to Reliant Stadium for a week to matchup against the Texans.
With minimal receiver depth to start the year, Houston could very well elevate a practice squad wide out like Tinsley for that game. He may end up playing against Cincinnati.
The Texans still have to make that decision for a couple weeks. Another one of their practice squad receivers maybe more of what they need at the time. They may just roll with five wideouts in the first four weeks until one of Dell or Higgins returns.
Tinsley is arguably the best player the Bengals cut this year. I would imagine he would want to play against them if given the chance. It is at least possible when Sept. 20 rolls around.
