Cincinnati Bengals part ways with a surprising name to fit their newest player on the 53-man roster
The Cincinnati Bengals have made the first of what will eventually be dozens of alterations to their 53-man roster Monday afternoon. Cincinnati successfully claimed former Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Myles Hinton off of waivers. To fit Hinton on the 53, the Bengals have released tight end Tanner Hudson.

Cincinnati successfully claimed former Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Myles Hinton off of waivers. To fit Hinton on the 53, the Bengals have released tight end Tanner Hudson.
It’s no surprise to see the Bengals add an OT to their roster. The coaching staff was pitting Javon Foster against Jalen Rivers for the swing tackle job during the last two weeks of the preseason. Neither one ran away with the role, but both made the initial 53. Minton will be added to the equation going forward.
The surprise comes with the player who is out of job, at least for now.
Bengals unexpectedly move on from Tanner Hudson
Hudson has been with Cincinnati since 2023. He’s played in 38 games with the club, catching 77 passes for 674 yards and four touchdowns. His best year was his first when he emerged as the primary receiving TE, leading the position with 39 receptions for 352 yards and a score. He has earned quarterback Joe Burrow’s stamp of approval, and was one of the first players the team extended this offseason.
To top it all off, Hudson didn’t even play in the final preseason game against the Eagles. That seemed to be a clear indication that he was very much safe to make the team. The biggest question at the position was whether or not rookie seventh-round pick Jack Endries was going to make the cut.
Endries is not only still here, he is now the fourth TE on the depth chart. Drew Sample, Mike Gesicki, and Erick All Jr. are in front of him with actual NFL experience. Endries may now actually be active on game days.
I would expect Hudson to return to the practice squad very soon. The Bengals lost Cam Grandy to the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad, and the relationship between Hudson and the club is strong enough for this next chapter to proceed.
Who is Myles Hinton?
Hinton was one of Philadelphia’s four sixth-round picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. He has only played preseason games so far in his career as he missed the entire 2025 season on Injured Reserve. He played exclusively left tackle for the Eagles in six total preseason games. Pro Football Focus has him charged with five pressures allowed on 139 pass-blocking snaps.
Hinton was drafted out of Michigan, where he played his final two years of college football. He previously played three years at Stanford. He played both left and right tackle during his college days. Should he emerge as Cincinnati’s new swing tackle, he’ll need to be capable of playing on both sides.
On the surface, Hinton enters the Bengals locker room without very much experience. He has tools and traits that clearly entice the team, and perhaps offensive line coach Scott peters can start unlocking further elements of his game like he has done with Amarius Mims, Dylan Fairchild, and Jacob Bayer.
Cincinnati now has 10 offensive linemen on their active roster, and for tight ends. There are still 12 full days until the season-opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, so more roster moves are to be expected.
