The Tennessee Vols announced on Thursday that the program has hired former Auburn athletic director Allen Greene as Senior Deputy Athletics Director.
Greene served as Auburn's athletic director from 2018 to 2022. He was the athletic director at Buffalo from 2015 to 2018. Greene took over as the athletic director at Buffalo after current Tennessee athletic director Danny White stepped down from the position to become the athletic director at UCF.
"One of the key objectives from our strategic plan 'Rise Glorious' was to attract goal-driven and intensely competitive teammates to strengthen our family-oriented, innovative and fearless culture and Allen is a tremendous addition to our leadership team," said White in a press release announcing the hire. "Allen's one of the most dynamic and engaging leaders I've been fortunate to work alongside, and I am thrilled to be able to add one of the stars of our profession and his wonderful family to Rocky Top."
The addition of Greene to Tennessee's athletic department is a reminder of the time White went scorched earth on Auburn.
Greene and Auburn parted ways in 2022 amid a chaotic situation at Auburn.
White sent a congratulations tweet to Greene for getting out of a "crazy situation" at Auburn.
It's rare to see a sitting athletic director criticize a conference rival, which is why White's tweet sent some gasps through the college world.
White's father, Kevin, who is a former athletic director at Notre Dame and Duke, also showed public support for Greene after his exit from Auburn.
It's clear that Greene is a highly-respected college administrator and he should be a great addition to Tennessee's athletic department.
