Heading into Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles needed to beat the Dallas Cowboys.
A Week 14 win for the Eagles would have had them continue to steer the NFC East division and improve their chances of landing the No. 1 seed in the playoffs.
But with their 33-13 brutal loss in Arlington, the Eagles are now 10-3, which has them tied with the (10-3) Cowboys in the NFC East.
In addition to sharing the NFC East division lead, the top seed in the NFC is up for grabs.
Snagging the No. 1 seed is crucial when it comes to entering the NFL playoffs. It means home-field advantage and one less post-season game to play by avoiding the Wildcard weekend. It also means you are guaranteed to play the lowest seed in every round.
That's so many advantages that the Eagles are giving up by playing sloppy football.
Sure, they can bounce back but they'll now need a lot more to fall into place. Not only will the Eagles need to finish strong and win out, but they will have to bank on the 49ers and Cowboys losing down their final stretches.
Simply beating Dallas would have made things a lot easier for the Birds' 2023 playoff run.
Instead, the Eagles' offense failed to score a single touchdown and had three turnovers, including two in the red zone.
It's hard to beat a fellow contender when you give up that many points.
