An NFC scouting director thinks the Tennessee Vols have one of the best players in the nation on their roster.
ESPN's Matt Miller recently broke down the top 2026 NFL Draft prospects and he has Vols cornerback Jermod McCoy as his top cornerback in next spring's draft.
McCoy is currently recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in January.
"The 6-foot, 193-pound defender had four interceptions last season and showed the closing speed and reaction agility to erase wide receivers while being able to play the ball in the air," wrote Miller of McCoy. "He has shutdown cornerback potential if he returns from injury in the same form as when we last saw…McCoy is the No. 1 corner until something changes."
An anonymous NFC scouting director told Miller that he thinks McCoy is "the best in the country".
"McCoy is the best in the country, but he's a question mark for us right now," said the NFC scouting director.
It's unclear when McCoy will return to action for the Volunteers, though his rehab is reportedly going well.
There's some optimism that McCoy could be ready for Tennessee's Week 3 matchup against the Georgia Bulldogs. But it's far too early to know for sure if McCoy will be ready to go for the September 13 showdown against Georgia.
We should have more clarity on McCoy's status once fall camp starts for Tennessee later this month.
