It's been a very, VERY ugly century thus far for Miami Hurricanes signal callers in the NFL.  That futile stretch appears set to finally end, beginning this week when Cam Ward and the Tennessee Titans begin training camp in full ahead of the 2025 season.

In fact, the path for Ward to turn back some back Miami history just widened even further on Monday after it was announced that QB2 Will Levis would have surgery on his shoulder that would keep him out for the 2025 season.

There wasn't much chance of Levis outdueling Ward in training camp and the preseason or otherwise getting the nod over the latter for the first snaps of the regular season.  However, Ward, absent injury, is all but locked into the QB1 role for the Titans' opener at the Denver Broncos on September 7.  The remaining QBs on the Titans' roster are Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle.

The Miami Hurricanes have seen their starting QBs hit a wall professionally after leaving college for almost the last two decades.  You have to go back to 2007 to see any kind of meaningful play from former Miami QBs.  Vinny Testaverde, in the final year of a 21-year career, played in 7 games for Carolina, going 2-4 as a starter and throwing for 952 yards with 5 touchdowns to 6 interceptions.

Brock Berlin started one game in that same 2007 season for the St. Louis Rams, going 17-28 for 153 yards with an interception in one start.  He had a brief appearance in 2008 in one game, and that was it for his NFL career.

Now, Ward will begin his career with a goal in mind that no Miami Hurricanes QB since Jim Kelly with the Bills has accomplished – reach the Super Bowl.  We'll see if he can get his career off on the right foot when the Titans and Broncos square off in Week One.
