Football is back. Well, kind of. On Saturday, August 9, we’ll be able to finally watch the Buffalo Bills in action as they take on the New York Giants for their first NFL preseason game.

Kickoff is set at 1 p.m. ET, and this will be the Bills Mafia’s first chance to see the team in action after a long offseason.

How to watch Bills vs. Giants

With Hard Knocks watching practice, an MVP at QB, and more drama than the latest episode of Real Housewives, all eyes are going to be on Buffalo as it tries and take the next step towards the elusive Lombardi Trophy.

The team’s first preseason game will be nationally televised by NFL Network (and NFL+) as part of a tripleheader that also includes the Packers vs. Jets and Texans vs. Vikings. Bills Mafia will get their time to shine in Highmark Stadium.

If you’re local, you can watch the contest on WIVB-CBS as part of the local CBS affiliate, as reported by Sports Media Watch. The Buffalo Bills’ official broadcast brings back some familiar faces with the play-by-play announcer Chris Brown, who took over after John Murphy had retired. Former Buffalo Bills C Eric Wood will continue to join Brown in the booth on gamedays for color commentary on WGR 550.

For the play-by-play, Andrew Catalon will be reporting, with Color Analyst Steve Tasker and Sideline Reporter Maddie Glab in the local markets.

Things to watch out for in the first preseason game

Keeping this team healthy will be the main priority outside of getting some meaningful reps for some players that will have their number called up due to injury. Bills and Giants kickoff on August 9 at 1 p.m. ET, and it will be a perfect test for some of the younger guys on the roster.

As of August 4, there has been no word on what type of action QB Josh Allen might see during the contest, but if the Return of the Red & Blue Practice was any indication, it’ll be a lighter day for the MVP quarterback.

With the James Cook drama unfolding, it could be a big day for some of the other RBs on the roster to make a name for themselves. Every year, we get a preseason darling, and last year’s was Frank Gore Jr. Just having him on the roster was exciting. Here’s hoping we get a little Gore Jr and Ray Davis action on Saturday.

For this upcoming preseason game, one of the biggest things to be watching out for is the backup QB position and how the receivers can work in the offense. I have nightmares thinking about what happens if Allen goes down with a serious injury. The Buffalo Bills currently have Mitchell Trubisky and Mike White as their backup quarterbacks, and we’re sure to see a heavy dose of both during the matchup.

Preseason is a good test to see how other guys on the roster might be able to step up. Now, this is preseason, so make sure to temper your expectations a little bit.

Outside of players, really, the big focus is on staying healthy. If the Bills can come out of their first preseason game with a clean bill of health, I will be a happy camper.
